Stuffed Cows on the move.

Cattle on the Move by Wilma Bolton.

We have a picture sent to Historic Hamilton by Wilma Bolton who wanted to give you all some peace of mind.about the stuffed cows that used to be in the Library.

I don’t recall ever seeing them, but apparently, they were here and they were housed in the library before being moved to Chathelerult.

This picture shows the cows being transported away from the Hamilton Library, Perhaps Wilma could tell us the date?

As always, thank you, Wilma.

  1. From memory they were in a glass case at the top fo stairs leading to the reference library.

    1. Absolutely. When I was first allowed to use the reference library I was in the course of leaving Beckford Street PS heading for St. John’s Grammar. When I first saw the cattle in the case it was an astonishing sight and my interest increased the more I used the reference library. In the lending library downstairs there was a section with newspaper used by older gentlemen (probably a lot younger than I am today) but one man fascinated me. He was smartly dressed, had white white hair combed forward with a curl that went to the middle of his forehead. He was always making notes into an exercise book but he used a pen (pre biro) with green ink! I always envied that man because he had a fountain pen! I never found out his name and he is probably long dead but if I at 81 remember him he still lives in my mind.
